A controversy has erupted following reports that actor Jo Jae-yoon, currently starring in 'The Tyrant's Chef,' was subjected to mocking remarks from a Chinese voice actor regarding his Mandarin dialogue in the drama.

During a scene aired on the 6th and 7th, Jo Jae-yoon portrayed the role of 'Tang Baek-ryong,' a chef from the Ming Dynasty, delivering his lines in fluent Mandarin. Chinese viewers had praised his performance, commenting on the natural pronunciation and clarity of his speech.

However, a Chinese voice actor later posted on Weibo, stating, 'That was my voice. I dubbed it.' This revelation exposed that Jo Jae-yoon's Mandarin performance was, in fact, voice-dubbed. The voice actor further criticized Jo Jae-yoon's acting as 'terrible' and claimed that even the Korean director, who understands Chinese, couldn't help but laugh. The post, accompanied by a photo from the recording session, was perceived as a direct mockery of the actor.

Upon learning of this incident, Korean netizens expressed strong criticism, with comments like 'It's natural for an actor not to be fluent in a foreign language,' and 'Was there a need to mock him on social media?' Some also questioned why the character wasn't originally written in Korean.

While the voice actor has since deleted the post, the incident has already been widely reported by major media outlets, including Taiwan's ETtoday. Although the voice actor's name remains undisclosed, the fact that the remarks allegedly came from an industry insider has intensified the controversy.

Jo Jae-yoon is a renowned character actor, celebrated for his impactful roles in films like 'The Chaser,' 'The Suspect,' and 'Veteran,' as well as dramas such as 'Stranger' and 'Hospital Playlist.' He is consistently praised for his ability to embody a wide array of characters with distinct personalities. His acting talent spans across genres, including action, comedy, and drama, showcasing remarkable versatility.
