So Ji-sub to Star in New SBS Drama 'Chief Kim' Set for Late 2026
Hallyu superstar So Ji-sub is set to grace the small screen once again, confirmed to headline the upcoming SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Chief Kim,' slated for broadcast in the latter half of 2026.
Produced by Fantagio, the series centers on 'Chief Kim,' a former elite special agent who attempts to live a quiet life as an ordinary office worker, only to be plunged into a crisis when his beloved daughter is kidnapped. Following his critically acclaimed performance in the Netflix series 'The Score,' where he showcased intense action sequences, So Ji-sub's casting as the titular character has amplified anticipation for the drama.
'Chief Kim' draws its narrative from a hugely popular webtoon of the same name, which captivated readers by consistently ranking No. 1 on Naver's Tuesday webtoon chart for nearly four years. The drama is expected to leverage the webtoon's compelling storyline and memorable characters to enthrall audiences.
This project further solidifies Fantagio's position as a comprehensive content creator. The company has previously produced successful webtoon-based dramas like 'Love Song for Illusion' and 'Bumpy Family' for KBS, demonstrating their expertise in adapting popular digital content for television.
Fantagio Chairman Namkoong Yeon expressed his commitment, stating, "Following last year's successes, we will continue to deliver high-quality webtoon adaptations. We will leverage our accumulated know-how to create 'Chief Kim,' a content piece that possesses both widespread appeal and artistic merit."
Fantagio boasts a diverse roster of talent, including actors Cha Eun-woo, Kim Seon-ho, and Lee Sung-kyung, as well as musicians from groups like ASTRO and LUN8, actively expanding its content production business since 2022.
So Ji-sub debuted as a model in 1995 before transitioning to acting, quickly becoming a household name with hits like 'What Happened in Bali,' 'Master's Sun,' and 'I'm Sorry, I Love You.' His unique charisma and profound acting skills have consistently earned him widespread adoration. His recent role in the Netflix series 'The Score' showcased a different facet of his talent through demanding action scenes.
