STAYC's Shim Ja-yoon Shares Joy Over 'Office Workers 2' Success and Member Support

Shim Ja-yoon, a member of the K-pop group STAYC, has expressed her delight at the success of the Coupang Play series 'Office Workers 2' and the encouraging support she's received from her fellow group members.

In a recent interview on August 11th in Seoul, Shim Ja-yoon shared her surprise at how her STAYC members, who usually tune into her music and YouTube content, have now started complimenting her work on the drama. "It's fascinating when they tell me they're enjoying 'Office Workers 2' now," she commented, feeling a sense of accomplishment as more people recognize her.

Reflecting on the first season, which concluded rather abruptly, Shim Ja-yoon admitted to feeling a bit disappointed about not having enough time to fully adapt. However, she mentioned that in Season 2, she felt much more comfortable and bonded with the senior cast members. She particularly beamed when recalling an ad-lib she made during the Swings episode, which surprisingly made it into the top 5 minutes of the YouTube preview.

'Office Workers 2,' which stars Shin Dong-yup, Kim Won-hoon, Lee Su-ji, and others alongside Shim Ja-yoon, portrays the daily survival struggles of office workers dreaming of slacking off and leaving work on time. Shim Ja-yoon plays an intern, showcasing a different side of her talent beyond her idol persona.

She described her role as allowing her to express things she might only imagine in real life. The comedic timing and ad-libs, often sparked during relaxed moments with the cast, have been a hit, with her members even noting how much funnier she has become. "They give me feedback, and we play around with it," she said, highlighting the dynamic interaction.

Shim Ja-yoon fondly recalled how her fellow member Sumi often looks out for her, even shedding tears of gratitude when Sumi thanked her for persevering among the senior actors after Season 1 concluded. However, she jokingly stated that there's no one else in STAYC ready to follow in her comedic footsteps, as the others are quite laid-back. "We're not a team that produces creative comedy," she quipped, adding, "'Office Workers 2' is the Amazon, and I have to survive alone."

The show has climbed to the top of Coupang Play's popular series chart since its release on August 9th, attributed to the cast's relatable humor, ingenious ad-libs, and the enthusiastic participation of guest stars.

Shim Ja-yoon, born in 2002, debuted as a member of STAYC in 2020.

Within the group, she holds the positions of sub-vocalist and lead rapper.
