'Good News' Successfully Concludes Busan Film Festival, Netflix Release Set for October 17
Netflix's upcoming film 'Good News' has successfully completed its official schedule at the 30th Busan International Film Festival amidst fervent anticipation.
Officially invited to the 'Gala Presentation' section, 'Good News' participated in all official events, including the opening ceremony, stage greetings, Q&A sessions (GV), press conferences, and open talks, engaging with fans.
The movie, set in the 1970s, depicts a suspicious operation by individuals gathered to prevent a hijacked airplane from landing at any cost.
Following its screening, critics lauded the film, with Song Kyung-won of Cine21 praising it as a "magical film with the masterful eloquence and humor unique to director Byun Sung-hyun." Accolades like "director Byun Sung-hyun's visually stunning satire" and "a black comedy capturing the synergy between Byun Sung-hyun and Sol Kyung-gu" have heightened expectations for the film's unique charm.
Director Byun Sung-hyun shared his intention to tell a story set in the 1970s that remains relevant today, focusing on reactions to events rather than the events themselves. Actor Sol Kyung-gu described his character, 'Amoogae,' as a mysterious fixer who is "everywhere and nowhere," calling the role a novel experience. Hong Kyung, playing elite Air Force lieutenant 'Seo Go-myung,' was drawn to the character's ambition and desire for redemption. Japanese actor Takayuki Yamada, portraying 'Shinichi,' a vice-minister dispatched to Korea, expressed his joy in participating in a Korean production and hoped for more such opportunities.
'Good News' is scheduled for global release on Netflix on October 17th.
Director Byun Sung-hyun is known for his distinctive cinematic style in films like 'The Merciless' and 'Time to Hunt.' This marks his fourth collaboration with actor Sol Kyung-gu, promising a fresh synergy. 'Good News' is anticipated to be a culmination of his exceptional visual artistry and black comedy sensibilities.
