Yoon Jung-soo Reveals Lingering Attachment to Mother's Belongings After 9 Years
Broadcaster Yoon Jung-soo shared the poignant reason why he still can't part with his mother's clothes and belongings, even nine years after her passing.
On the April 22nd broadcast of TV CHOSUN's 'Joseon's Lover', Yoon Jung-soo's life was showcased as he prepares for his wedding in about two months. Despite his busy schedule, he was seen drying laundry on four drying racks in his spacious living room, explaining his frequent need for showers due to profuse sweating. He also introduced his home, which he acquired with some difficulty, featuring four generously sized rooms utilized for various purposes. Yoon Jung-soo even kept a remote control from 20 years ago, illustrating his struggle to declutter.
Having previously lost his Cheongdam-dong penthouse due to bankruptcy and auction, Yoon Jung-soo confessed that his possessions haven't decreased even after a decade. He revealed bankruptcy documents as a way to 'snap out of it', lamenting the sheer volume of paperwork required to lose all his assets. His agency colleague Kim Kook-jin recalled Yoon Jung-soo looking very down during a company retreat back then.
After repaying all his debts and restoring his credit in 2016, Yoon Jung-soo explained his difficulty in letting go of items. He stated that not having siblings meant there was no one to explain his past to him, and as he ages, his memory fades, making these items a way to recall his life. He also mentioned that his mother, being hearing-impaired, could not have shared many stories about him, adding to his sense of loss.
Following his mother's death in 2016, Yoon Jung-soo has kept her clothing. He admitted that while he intended to burn one item per ancestral rite, he couldn't bring himself to do so because the clothes still held her scent and memories. Tears welled up as he recalled his mother and expressed regret for not being able to care for her better as a son.
Yoon Jung-soo debuted in 1997 as a South Korean broadcaster and comedian. He gained significant popularity for his witty remarks and relatable charm on numerous variety shows. Recently, he announced his upcoming marriage, receiving widespread congratulations.
