Singer SEAN Visits Son Kee-chung Statue After Berlin Marathon Triumph
Singer SEAN made a special visit to the statue of the late Son Kee-chung, the 1936 Berlin Olympics marathon gold medalist, shortly after successfully completing the Berlin Marathon.
SEAN, who finished his fifth major marathon event on September 21st, shared his emotional experience via his social media on the 23rd, announcing his visit to the statue located near the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
The photos he posted showed SEAN standing proudly next to Son Kee-chung's statue, holding the South Korean flag, evoking a touching sentiment. Another image captured him in a dynamic pose, as if running alongside the legendary marathoner on the very path he once conquered.
SEAN shared his feelings, stating, "I was deeply moved to see the Taegeukgi (South Korean flag) displayed at the statue of Son Kee-chung, who won a gold medal with the Japanese flag on his chest during the Japanese colonial era in 1936." He continued, "I will shout once more in my heart: 'Everything will be alright, Republic of Korea!'" expressing his profound love for his country.
SEAN, who consistently practices philanthropy through running, reaffirmed his commitment to building homes for the descendants of independence activists following his Berlin Marathon completion. He added, "The promise to build homes up to the 100th house for the descendants of independence activists is something 'someone has to do,' and I will definitely fulfill it."
Previously, SEAN raised approximately 2.3 billion KRW by running 81.5km in the '2025 815 Run' commemorating the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day. These funds are entirely dedicated to improving the living conditions of the descendants of independence activists.
As SEAN continues his quest to complete the world's six major marathons, his successful Berlin Marathon finish further solidifies his reputation as a "Giver Angel."
SEAN married actress Jung Hye-young on October 3, 1997, and they have two sons and two daughters. Since 2004, SEAN and Jung Hye-young have actively supported SEAN's philanthropic endeavors, becoming known as a prominent charitable couple in the entertainment industry. SEAN has been consistently involved in building homes for the descendants of independence activists since 2010, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to giving back.
