
Kim Go-eun Praises Co-star Park Ji-hyun for Completing 'Eun-joong and Sang-yeon'
Actress Kim Go-eun has shared her deep trust and affection for her co-star Park Ji-hyun, highlighting her essential role in bringing the Netflix series 'Eun-joong and Sang-yeon' to life.
In a recent interview with Sports Seoul, Kim Go-eun emphasized how crucial Park Ji-hyun's presence was to the completion of the 15-episode drama. The series, which delves into the intricate and complex relationship between two women over a lifetime, achieved significant synergy through the collaboration of the two leads.
'I received many calls from industry insiders,' Kim Go-eun revealed, expressing relief that the series was well-received. 'Eun-joong and Sang-yeon' portrays the lives of two friends, Eun-joong (played by Kim Go-eun) and Sang-yeon (played by Park Ji-hyun), who share an intense bond characterized by admiration, jealousy, and love throughout their lives.
Describing her character Eun-joong as having 'high self-esteem,' Kim Go-eun recalled her first encounter with Sang-yeon as love at first sight. 'Sang-yeon was a shining and special presence in Eun-joong's life. I felt more admiration than jealousy,' she added.
However, Kim Go-eun spoke about the challenges of portraying Eun-joong's emotions when Sang-yeon, struggling after her brother's death, hurts Eun-joong, and later requests her companionship for assisted death in Switzerland due to terminal illness. 'It was difficult to convey emotions without tears,' she admitted. 'Eun-joong's resolve was not to cry in front of Sang-yeon. I felt a tightness in my chest from suppressing my surging emotions.'
Regarding her chemistry with Park Ji-hyun, Kim Go-eun expressed her delight upon hearing the casting news. 'Park Ji-hyun is an actress I trust for her acting, and we had great chemistry on set,' she praised, recognizing Park Ji-hyun's vital contribution in embodying the complex narrative and fluctuating emotions of Sang-yeon, thereby completing the series.
Kim Go-eun gained significant recognition for her leading role in the 2016 film 'Canola'. She has showcased a wide acting spectrum through diverse genres and projects like 'Cheese in the Trap', 'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God', and 'Yumi's Cells'. Her performance in 'A Muse' earned her the Blue Dragon Film Award for Best New Actress, solidifying her reputation as a talented actress.
