STAYC's Yoon Transforms into a 'Veteran Intern' on 'Office Workers 2', Embracing New Challenges
Shim Ja-yoon, widely known as Yoon from the K-pop group STAYC, has shed her innocent intern image from Season 1 of Coupang Play's 'Office Workers 2' and is now captivating audiences as a bold and witty 'veteran intern.' In the latest episodes, she confidently teases seniors and guests, flipping the dynamics and injecting humor into the show.
Her sharp comebacks, particularly during a recent segment with rapper Swings, had viewers in stitches. This shift from a timid newcomer to someone who playfully bosses others around not only amplifies the comedy but also symbolizes her significant growth within the program.
In a recent interview with Sports Seoul, Shim Ja-yoon shared, "The writers and PDs meticulously craft the situations, so I just need to follow along." She noted that her experience as an idol, including stage presence and reactions learned during her trainee days, synergizes well with the realism of the office comedy, creating a unique charm.
Reflecting on her initial hesitation to join the show, she admitted, "When I first heard about the audition, I was honestly scared. I wondered if I could do well and even thought about not going." However, the experience proved invaluable, making her understand why people take on new challenges. This led her to approach Season 2 with renewed determination, unlocking new facets of her personality.
The audience has clearly noticed her evolution. Shim Ja-yoon confessed to reading comments diligently and was particularly pleased with reactions mentioning she looked "prettier." She revealed a 5kg weight loss contributing to this change. Most rewarding for her, however, was seeing viewers embrace the 'veteran intern' character she worked hard to portray.
"When the small points I prepared are conveyed through the screen to the viewers, and then return as laughter, that's the happiest moment for me as a performer and artist."
Currently, she is expanding her horizons by simultaneously filming a drama. Moving beyond her idol roots, she is actively exploring her potential in variety shows and acting.
"I'm filming a project that combines comedic elements with acting," she shared, expressing her desire to continue taking on diverse roles after showcasing a new side of herself through 'Office Workers.'
When asked about dream guests for future seasons, she mused, "It would be fun if guests with musical common ground appeared, given my background as a singer." She enthusiastically added, "It would be a great honor to have someone like senior Jo Yong-pil. I'd love to chat about music and also play around in the unique way 'Office Workers' does." She also envisions a future role: "When a new generation of juniors comes in, I'll probably be in a different position, perhaps taking care of the juniors, which would be a different kind of fun."
From idol Yoon to actress Shim Ja-yoon, she is carving her name across various stages and cameras. Shim Ja-yoon concluded, "I feel my life broadening, and I want to challenge myself in more fields to showcase my unique colors even further."
Yoon, born Shim Ja-yoon in 2001, is the lead vocalist of the popular K-pop group STAYC, debuting in 2020. Known for her bright and energetic charm, she has gained a significant following. Beyond her music career and her role in 'Office Workers 2,' she has also made appearances on various variety shows, establishing herself as a versatile entertainer.
