Son Ye-jin Clarifies 'Rudeness Controversy' with Lee Byung-hun: 'We Were Just Joking'
Actress Son Ye-jin has addressed a recent misunderstanding stemming from a comment by Lee Byung-hun, which some online interpreted as her being rude to a child actor. The incident occurred during a press conference for their new film, 'I've Got a Plan'.
Lee Byung-hun had jokingly remarked that the young actress playing his daughter asked so many questions that he couldn't keep up, and that Son Ye-jin didn't answer any, telling him, 'You answer, senior.' While everyone present laughed it off, some online discussions twisted this into Son Ye-jin mistreating the child.
To clear the air, the mother of the child actor, Choi Ye-rin, posted on social media, clarifying that it was a lighthearted moment and Son Ye-jin was very kind. Son Ye-jin herself recalled the event, stating, 'We were just joking, and no one thought it would become controversial. Senior Lee always has a lot of comedic aspirations, so he probably thought about how to make people laugh the day before.'
She further explained, 'I was just busy preparing for a scene where I had to drive and deliver lines. Senior Lee playfully asked me to answer.' Son Ye-jin added that Lee Byung-hun apologized profusely afterward, even though it wasn't necessary. 'It was really funny and enjoyable for me,' she shared, humorously noting they even joked in a group chat about 'reducing comedic aspirations going forward.'
'I've Got a Plan' was released today, the 24th.
Son Ye-jin is celebrated for her versatility, transitioning seamlessly from romantic comedies to more dramatic roles.
