
Indie Music Celebrates 30 Years with Festival & Exhibition
Get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Korean indie music as the 'Indie 30th Anniversary Festival & Exhibition' is set to open its doors tomorrow, September 25th.
Taking place on September 25th and 26th at a Hongdae cafe in Mapo-gu, Seoul, this event is a retrospective journey through the past three decades of Korean indie music. It aims to bridge generations within the indie scene and foster a shared experience between artists and fans.
The main stage on the rooftop will feature powerhouse performances from bands like Crying Nut, O.O.O, and Fishing Girls on the 25th, followed by No Brain, The Geeks, and Mongdol on the 26th, promising an unforgettable rock experience.
Meanwhile, the 4th-floor stage will host a diverse lineup of musicians, including Kang Hwi, Han Note, Hupi, Oh Hee-jung, and Bennie, showcasing the breadth of talent in the current indie scene.
Beyond the music, the festival offers a variety of engaging activities. The 5th-floor gallery will display a photo exhibition and a photo zone, alongside merchandise like t-shirts featuring the logos of 51 indie teams. Interactive events such as 'Memory Delivery' and 'You Write Lyrics, Indie 30 Writes Music' will also be available for audience participation.
Visitors can also enjoy a documentary related to the 30th anniversary of the indie scene in the 7th-floor media space. Additionally, when ordering beverages on the 8th floor, patrons will receive cup holders emblazoned with the names of 100 indie musicians.
This festival commemorates 30 years of the Korean indie scene, which has carved a unique path in the history of popular music since its beginnings in the 1990s Hongdae club culture. Attendees can expect to feel the enduring energy and spirit of indie music, experiencing a flow that connects the past, present, and future through the performances of artists spanning different generations.
Originating from the Hongdae club scene in the 1990s, the Korean indie music scene has pioneered new territories in the nation's popular music history. MY Music is the host and organizer, with support from the Korea Creative Content Agency's popular music space planning support project.
