Volleyball Legend Kim Yeon-koung Embarks on New Journey as 'Rookie Director,' Reveals Mind Control Secrets
Volleyball legend Kim Yeon-koung is stepping into a new role as a director. Following her retirement, she has taken on the coaching position and shared insights into her leadership and 'mind control' techniques at the production presentation for MBC's new variety show, 'Rookie Director Kim Yeon-koung.'
The event saw Kim Yeon-koung joined by SEVENTEEN member Seungkwan, former volleyball player Pyo Seung-ju, and director Kwon Rak-hee, with broadcaster Park Kyung-lim hosting. The show will chronicle the journey of Kim Yeon-koung, renowned as the 'Emperor of Volleyball,' as she establishes and leads her own club as a 'rookie director' with zero years of experience.
Kim Yeon-koung expressed her surprise at becoming a director so soon after her playing career, crediting director Kwon Rak-hee's persistent efforts for her decision to join the program. She believes the show will be a valuable opportunity to promote volleyball further and serve as a stepping stone for her growth as a coach.
Teammate Pyo Seung-ju noted that Kim Yeon-koung seemed calmer as a director compared to her intense playing days. While known for her strong on-court presence, which even led to the popular catchphrase 'Sik-ppang' (bread), her composure as a leader was a pleasant surprise.
Reflecting on this, Kim Yeon-koung emphasized the importance of 'mind control.' She explained that her own urgency could affect the players, making it crucial for her to maintain a calm demeanor. She also humorously mentioned her anticipation for the broadcast, as the teaser didn't fully capture her composed side, leaving her curious about what she might have said.
SEVENTEEN's Seungkwan added to the lighthearted atmosphere by remarking that their director doesn't actually use that much profanity. 'Rookie Director Kim Yeon-koung' is set to premiere on the 28th at 9:10 PM.
As an athlete, Kim Yeon-koung represented South Korea in numerous international competitions, including the Olympics and Asian Games, achieving remarkable success. After retiring from her playing career, she chose the path of coaching, beginning her second life in volleyball. Through the program 'Rookie Director Kim Yeon-koung,' she is expected to contribute to expanding the reach of volleyball and discovering promising young talents.
