
Director Park Chan-wook Reveals Casting Secrets for Son Ye-jin: "Didn't Know I'd Be This Happy"
Director Park Chan-wook has shared the behind-the-scenes story of casting actress Son Ye-jin for his film.
In a video released on the 'W Korea' YouTube channel, Director Park discussed the casting process for Son Ye-jin. He admitted, "Although I was confident the role's weight in the script was sufficient, I was most worried about how Son Ye-jin would perceive it." He added, "As expected, when I heard murmurs of 'a negative atmosphere,' I was genuinely taken aback."
Upon hearing this, Son Ye-jin expressed surprise, asking, "Did you think I met you with the intention to refuse? I had no idea, I didn't know any of this."
Son Ye-jin further elaborated on her strong pull towards the project, stating, "When I first read the script, the role was much smaller, yet the intensity of it struck me powerfully." She continued, "I felt an overwhelming urge, a conviction that I absolutely had to take on even that small part."
Director Park conveyed his overwhelming joy upon hearing Son Ye-jin had agreed, saying, "I couldn't even control my facial expression; I was that happy." Son Ye-jin playfully added, "I thought you weren't happy because your expression seemed a bit hesitant." "I didn't realize there was this misunderstanding," she laughed.
