Veteran actress Sunwoo Yong-yeo, fondly remembered for her role in the sitcom 'Soonpoong Clinic,' recently voiced strong indignation regarding the atrocities committed during the Japanese colonial period.
A video uploaded on the 24th to her YouTube channel, titled 'Three Wheels Legend Sunwoo Yong-yeo and Lee Kyung-sil's Gunsan Day Trip,' captured this moment.
In the video, Sunwoo Yong-yeo accompanied her close friend Lee Kyung-sil on a visit to Gunsan. Lee Kyung-sil, who hails from Gunsan, provided historical context about the city and the ways in which Japan exploited Korea.
She explained how the Japanese established railway lines and developed ports in Gunsan primarily for the purpose of rice extraction from the fertile Honam plains, revealing the painful history behind the city's development. Upon hearing this, Sunwoo Yong-yeo exclaimed, "They took all the rice? Those wicked people. Bastards!" Lee Kyung-sil further elaborated on the advanced sewage system in Gunsan, designed to prevent flooding and protect the rice shipments, highlighting the irony of this infrastructure being a product of historical pain.
Sunwoo Yong-yeo debuted in the film 'Chunpung' in 1965 and has had a long and distinguished acting career.
