Actor Lee Byung-hun has shared a heartwarming anecdote that highlights director Park Chan-wook's fervent desire for the box office success of their latest film, 'The Land of Sorrowful Joy'.

Appearing on the tvN show 'You Quiz on the Block' on the 24th, both Lee and Park discussed various aspects of the film. When MC Yoo Jae-suk asked about Park's wish to be known as 'Director of Ten Million' rather than 'Cannes Park,' the director playfully responded that he had always aimed for ten million viewers.

Lee then recounted an incident that revealed Park's significant longing for the film's commercial success. He explained that a food artist had brought him a generous portion of 'mukbap' (a Korean dish with jelly and rice) for dinner, which Park initially declined, stating he was full. However, it turned out the restaurant owner, recognizing the film crew and Park Chan-wook's name, had predicted the film would surpass 'Frozen 2' (13.76 million viewers) in audience numbers. The owner insisted the 'mukbap' be delivered, even writing a note on yellow paper, not unlike a charm.

Lee further elaborated, "I saw him eating all of that mukbap later during filming, and that's when I truly felt his deep wish for the movie's success." Director Park chimed in, mentioning he later visited the restaurant to express his gratitude, noting the young female owner had a very convincing and hopeful demeanor.

'The Land of Sorrowful Joy' marks the reunion of Lee Byung-hun and director Park Chan-wook after 25 years, since their collaboration on 'Joint Security Area' in 2000. The film was invited to the main competition at the 82nd Venice Film Festival and received critical acclaim, though it did not secure an award. The movie opened in Korea on the 24th, with high expectations for its box office performance, backed by a stellar cast including Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, and Lee Sung-min.
