Kim Eun-sook Unveils New Fantasy Romance Comedy 'Everything Will Come True'
Renowned screenwriter Kim Eun-sook is set to redefine the fantasy romantic comedy genre with her upcoming Netflix series, 'Everything Will Come True'.
Slated for release on October 3rd, just before the Chuseok holiday, the series introduces Genie (played by Kim Woo-bin), a spirit awakened after a thousand years, who encounters Ga-young (played by Suzy), a human devoid of emotions. Their story unfolds around three wishes, promising a stress-free and wildly imaginative romantic comedy.
As the mastermind behind global hits like 'The Glory', 'Mr. Sunshine', and 'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God', Kim Eun-sook's new project has already garnered immense attention. She describes 'Everything Will Come True' as a 'familiar yet fresh' fantasy romance, aiming to offer viewers an easy and quick escape to happiness. Kim expressed her deep affection for the genre, calling romantic comedies a 'magical genre' that allows audiences to feel exhilarated by budding romances, forget daily troubles, and find healing through laughter and tears.
The intriguing characters, Genie and Ga-young, have quickly become a talking point since the trailer's release. The series twists familiar tropes, presenting a Genie who, unlike typical wish-granters, embodies a darker, saturn-like nature, and a captivatingly beautiful woman who struggles with emotions. The chemistry between Kim Woo-bin and Suzy, who perfectly embody these unique roles, is highly anticipated.
Kim Eun-sook elaborated on Kim Woo-bin's portrayal of Genie, stating, "He has to be handsome, then clumsy, then instantly charming – a dynamic character requiring every emotion and facial expression an actor possesses." She added, "Watching Mr. Kim Woo-bin, I truly understood why actors are said to have 'a thousand faces.'" Regarding Suzy's character, Ga-young, she remarked, "Ga-young is a rare character, ironically possessing the exterior of a 'psychopath' but the inner core of 'human good will.'" She reassured that despite the character's complexity, Suzy was enthusiastic, saying, "I'm actually having so much fun!"
Kim Eun-sook plans to explore themes of human desire, nature, good versus evil, and the depth of love through the 'wishers' in 'Everything Will Come True', posing questions about how humans cope with their deficiencies. The visual settings also play a crucial role, with Genie's lamp transitioning from desolate to cozy as Ga-young brings life into it. The contrast between this indoor space and the serene, nature-rich Korean countryside village of Cheongpung provides a visually rich narrative.
To her fans, Kim Eun-sook advised, "We tried to write even the most intense scenes in a 'cute' way." She encouraged viewers to immerse themselves in the 'strange and beautiful' world of 'Everything Will Come True' this Chuseok, hoping for a holiday filled with heartwarming conversations rather than nagging.
'Everything Will Come True' will be available worldwide on Netflix starting October 3rd.
Kim Eun-sook is celebrated for her exceptional ability to craft compelling narratives and unforgettable characters, earning her the title 'Master of Romance'. Her past works include 'Secret Garden', 'Goblin', 'Descendants of the Sun', and 'The Glory', all of which achieved significant critical and commercial success. With 'Everything Will Come True', she aims to continue this legacy by blending fantasy elements with relatable human emotions. The series marks her reunion with actors Kim Woo-bin and Suzy, further heightening expectations.
