Park Ji-hyun Reveals 3-Week Fast for 'The Intercepted' Role
Actress Park Ji-hyun has revealed the extreme measures she took for her role in the Netflix series 'The Intercepted,' including fasting for approximately three weeks.
During a recent interview in Seoul, Park Ji-hyun discussed her dedication to portraying Sang-yeon, a character who chooses to end her life through physician-assisted suicide. The drama, which stars Kim Go-eun as Eun-jung and Park Ji-hyun as Sang-yeon, chronicles the complex relationship between two lifelong friends.
To embody Sang-yeon's frail condition, Park Ji-hyun underwent significant weight loss and disclosed that she subsisted solely on water and americano coffee for three weeks. She initially aimed for a thinner appearance to reflect Sang-yeon's impoverished background in her twenties but struggled with the cold during filming, resorting to wearing multiple layers and portable heating pads.
She further explained that she gained weight to portray Sang-yeon in her thirties, and then revisited fasting for the role in her forties when the character became ill. Notably, Park Ji-hyun shared that to achieve a puffy, unwell facial appearance after fasting, she would deliberately cry for two to three hours before shooting. Despite the emotional challenges and difficulty in controlling her tears during certain scenes, she found strength in her collaboration with co-star Kim Go-eun.
Park Ji-hyun made her acting debut in the 2016 film 'Okcheon.' She has since built a strong acting portfolio with roles in dramas such as 'True Beauty,' 'Do You Like Brahms?,' and 'Reborn Rich.' Her portrayal of Mo Hyeon-min in 'Reborn Rich' garnered significant attention, establishing her as a rising star. With her stable acting skills and versatile charm, Park Ji-hyun is an actress whose future endeavors are highly anticipated.
