Park Hee-soon Thanks Wife Park Ye-jin for Support: 'She Even Prayed and Told Me to Stop Complaining'
Actor Park Hee-soon, who stars in the film 'Emergency Declaration,' expressed his gratitude to his wife, actress Park Ye-jin, for her unwavering support.
In a recent interview held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, Park Hee-soon discussed the recently released film 'Emergency Declaration,' directed by Park Chan-wook. The movie tells the story of Man-soo (Lee Byung-hun), who faces a struggle for re-employment after being laid off, in order to protect his family. Park Hee-soon plays Choi Sun-chul, a rival in Man-soo's job search.
While Choi Sun-chul is depicted as a lonely character, Park Hee-soon clarified that his own reality is different, as he leads a happy family life with his wife, Park Ye-jin. He mentioned, "Unlike Sun-chul, I don't have many hobbies. So, I just stay at home," describing his ordinary life with his wife.
Park Hee-soon shared his appreciation for Park Ye-jin's support, who had long wished for him to appear in a Park Chan-wook film. He confessed, "My wife said she enjoyed the script very much. Honestly, I was very worried about potentially being a burden because the other actors are so talented. But my wife encouraged me, saying, 'Stop making excuses,' which gave me great strength."
He further expressed his joy at the experience of working with director Park Chan-wook, noting his satisfaction in witnessing the working style of a globally recognized director up close. He added that Park Ye-jin attended the VIP premiere and expressed her positive feedback.
Furthermore, Park Hee-soon emphasized his sense of responsibility as a husband and a breadwinner. When asked how he would cope if he faced a similar crisis of unemployment like the character Man-soo, he stated that he would work hard, even taking on jobs like delivery services if acting opportunities were scarce. He asserted, "Because I have a family, I can't just do what I want. My sense of responsibility has grown," showing his determination to do whatever it takes.
