
Jo Hye-ryun Recalls Comedian Jeon Yu-seong's Final Moments: 'He Denied God for Life, But Believed at the End'
Comedienne Jo Hye-ryun has shared her heartfelt memories of the late comedian Jeon Yu-seong, recounting their final moments together.
On the 26th, Jo uploaded several photos with Jeon Yu-seong on her social media, accompanying them with a lengthy message. She expressed gratitude, stating, 'I was thankful to be able to hold Oppa Yu-seong's hand and pray earnestly, and I was thankful that after the prayer, he said 'Amen'.' She further recalled tearfully, 'He read the Bible and listened to hymns until the very end. He prayed a prayer of repentance himself.'
Jo emphasized, 'It was a truly miraculous moment because he had denied God's existence his entire life, yet at the end, he acknowledged and believed in Him.' She confessed, 'Now, Oppa is in God's embrace. I will wait for the day we meet again in heaven.'
The accompanying photos show Jo Hye-ryun posing affectionately with Jeon Yu-seong. Another image features a cross in Jeon's hand, deeply touching those who saw it.
Concluding her message, Jo said, 'I respect you for creating comedy that brought laughter to the people struggling. I love you. Let's meet again in heaven.'
Jeon Yu-seong was a pioneer who coined the term 'comedian' and pioneered Korea's first public comedy stage and 'Gag Concert,' expanding the horizons of Korean comedy. He inspired countless juniors and played a foundational role in establishing the Bucheon International Comedy Festival.
Jeon passed away on the 25th at around 9:05 PM at Jeonbuk National University Hospital, where he was hospitalized due to worsening pleurisy, at the age of 76. His funeral hall is located at Asan Medical Center in Seoul.
Jo Hye-ryun debuted as a KBS special recruit comedian in 1995 and gained immense popularity for her 'Gollum' impersonation. She has since been active in various entertainment shows, earning the nickname 'Human Vitamin.' Recently, she has been actively engaging with fans through her personal YouTube channel.
