Webtoon-Based Drama 'The Utterly Wicked Woman' Premieres September 30th
The popular Naver webtoon 'The Utterly Wicked Woman' is set to be reborn as a short-form drama, with its first episode scheduled for release on September 30th.
This joint project by STUDIO X+U and Naver tells the story of Yoon Mi-so, who lives as an assistant writer in reality, suddenly finding herself possessed by an utterly wicked character in a melodramatic drama upon waking up.
The drama will unfold as the protagonist challenges herself to 'survive' and escape a predetermined, destructive ending.
Actress Kang Min-ah takes on the role of Yoon Mi-so. Song Byung-geun plays her secretary, Cha Seung-do, while Jung Ye-na portrays the drama's female lead, Han Sae-byeok, and Moon Byung-seol is cast as the male lead, Song Yoon-jae. Oh Hyun-kyung and Park Sang-myun join as Yoon Mi-so's parents, adding significant weight to the production.
The teaser video recently released signals the beginning of this melodramatic fantasy. Kang Min-ah, as Yoon Mi-so, fully embodies the 'wicked woman' role with actions like slapping, splashing water, and forcing others to kneel in the street. However, she repeatedly encounters the female lead, Han Sae-byeok, and their interactions follow predictable, cliché patterns of a melodrama. The audience is left wondering about Yoon Mi-so's fate, trapped in a dilemma where she must watch the ending to avoid a curse.
Furthermore, a romance is hinted at between the distressed wicked woman Yoon Mi-so and her secretary, Cha Seung-do. Cha Seung-do's shirtless scene and their shared bed scene raise expectations for intimacy. Yoon Mi-so's blushing remark, 'Is this really okay?', contrasts with her determination to escape the 'death' that awaits the wicked woman in the original drama, setting the stage for her fight for survival.
The live-action adaptation of 'The Utterly Wicked Woman,' beloved by webtoon fans, will be available on Naver's streaming platforms, Chzzk and Naver TV, starting September 30th. Following this, seven other short-form dramas, including 'Sujisuji,' 'Japangwi,' and 'Spur Man,' will be released sequentially.
Kang Min-ah, who debuted in 2014, has built a solid acting career through numerous dramas and films. She is recognized for her ability to portray diverse characters with strong acting skills. In 'The Utterly Wicked Woman,' she is expected to showcase a new facet of her talent by taking on the unpredictable role of a villainess.
