
Park Young-gyu's Heartbreaking Tribute: A Forest Cemetery for His Deceased Son
Actor Park Young-gyu deeply touched viewers as he shared his profound longing and paternal love for his son, who passed away prematurely.
Appearing on KBS 2TV's 'Oksutang Problem Solvers', Park candidly recounted the tragic story of losing his son in a traffic accident while studying abroad in the United States.
He revealed that after his son's death, he lost the will to live and moved to Canada, expressing his despair at the time by stating, "I was just waiting to die."
Park further shared that he purchased 300 pyeong (approximately 992 square meters) of land to create a private forest cemetery in his son's memory. He explained this was an effort to fulfill his dream of providing his son with a spacious home, something he couldn't do when they were poor.
He meticulously cared for the cemetery, planting pine trees and tending to the grass. Addressing the trees as if speaking to his son, he expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you for growing well as a tree." He conveyed that the pine trees felt like his growing son, leaving the audience with a profound sense of sorrow and love.
Born in 1958, Park Young-gyu debuted as an actor through MBC's special recruitment in 1977.
He gained immense popularity as a comedian before showcasing his versatile acting skills across dramas and films.
He has been married multiple times, and tragically lost his son from his first marriage in 2004 due to a car accident during his studies in the US.
