SEVENTEEN's Hoshi Donates $100 Million KRW to Build Classrooms in Zambia
Hoshi, a member of the popular K-pop group SEVENTEEN, has once again extended his support for educational infrastructure for children and adolescents.
The North Branch of the Community Chest of Korea (also known as 'Love's Fruit') announced on the 16th that Hoshi recently donated 100 million KRW. The funds will be used for the construction and renovation of classrooms at Mansansa Public School in Ndola, Zambia.
Mansansa Public School currently educates about 350 students from kindergarten to 7th grade, but has been operating with only two classrooms, highlighting a significant need for improved facilities.
Hoshi and his parents have committed to building and donating five new classrooms across two buildings, enabling students to pursue their dreams in a more stable educational environment. This follows his generous donation of 100 million KRW last year to support facility improvements at the Luang Prabang Orphanage School in Laos.
"I wanted to offer even a little bit of strength and encouragement to growing children," Hoshi stated. "I hope children can nurture their dreams more healthily in the newly built classrooms."
Since his debut, Hoshi has consistently practiced philanthropy, spreading positive influence. In 2021, he became a member of the 'Honor Society' for high-value donors (over 100 million KRW) by making a 100 million KRW donation. He has also actively participated in supporting disaster recovery efforts and underprivileged children and youth.
His group, SEVENTEEN, has also been at the forefront of social contribution activities, notably becoming the first K-pop artist to be appointed as a UNESCO Youth Goodwill Ambassador and establishing a $1 million fund for global youth.
Hoshi began his mandatory military service on the 16th, entering a training center for basic military training before serving as an active-duty soldier in the Army.
Hoshi is the leader of SEVENTEEN's performance team and is renowned for his exceptional dancing skills and stage presence, earning him the nickname 'Performance Master.' He actively contributes to the group's songwriting, composing, and production, showcasing his versatility as an artist. His dedication extends beyond music, as he is deeply involved in various charitable activities.
