Six years have passed since the untimely death of singer Woo Hye-mi, and a wave of remembrance is once again touching the K-pop community.
The talented artist, known for her powerful vocals, was found deceased at her home on September 21, 2019, at the young age of 31. Her sudden departure was particularly poignant as she was on the verge of releasing new music.
Just four days prior to her passing, Woo Hye-mi was actively engaging with fans and promoting her colleagues' new releases on social media. Her agency confirmed that concerns arose when she failed to attend meetings for her music video shoot and became unreachable.
While the exact cause of death was not officially disclosed, her agency expressed deep sorrow in announcing the tragic news, stating she had passed away at her residence.
Woo Hye-mi first captured the public's attention on Mnet's 'The Voice of Korea' Season 1 in 2012. As a contestant chosen by Baek Ji-young and Gil, she impressed with her vocal prowess, reaching the Top 4. She later debuted as 'Mi-u' under the label of hip-hop duo Leessang in 2015, actively pursuing her music career.
Beyond her debut single, she contributed as a featured artist on Leessang's tracks, showcasing her musical versatility. A month before her passing, she released her first EP, meticulously handling songwriting, composition, and arrangement, solidifying her identity as a singer-songwriter. At the time of the EP's release, she expressed ambitious aspirations for continued musical endeavors.
