SEOUL – Is it worth it to scalp tickets? For those caught reselling tickets for K-pop superstar G-Dragon's concert, the answer seems to be a resounding yes, despite the recent crackdown. Six individuals were apprehended near the Gocheok Sky Dome attempting to sell these coveted tickets on the black market.

The group, reportedly including four Chinese nationals, mostly in their 20s, had pre-arranged their meeting spots online before attempting to conduct their illicit transactions near the concert venue. Their potential profits were astronomical; selling around 200 tickets for 5 million won could yield a staggering 100 million won in profit.

Despite the massive profits, the penalties were surprisingly light. One individual, facing imminent departure from the country, was fined 160,000 won (approximately P7,000). The remaining five faced summary judgments, potentially resulting in fines of up to 200,000 won (approximately P8,500) – a fraction of their ill-gotten gains.

This isn't an isolated incident. VIP tickets originally priced around 220,000 won (approximately P9,300) have been seen resold for as much as 6.8 million won (approximately P288,000), a 31-fold increase. Other popular K-pop acts like NCT Wish and Seventeen are also falling victim to this rampant ticket scalping.

The issue highlights a growing problem within the K-pop industry, where the demand for popular concerts far outstrips supply, creating a lucrative market for scalpers.

Korean netizens are expressing their frustration online, with many calling the fines 'ridiculous' and 'an insult' to both artists and fans. Comments like, 'This is why scalpers will never stop,' and 'The government needs to take serious action,' are flooding social media platforms.
