Musical actress Ok Joo-hyun has addressed the 'Ok-Jang-Pan' controversy that resurfaced three years ago, speaking out for the first time on the matter.

Appearing on the Channel A program 'Four-Person Table' broadcast on the 8th, Ok Joo-hyun was asked about moments when her abilities were doubted in the musical theater world. She brought up the controversy surrounding the casting for the 2022 musical 'Elizabeth,' dubbed the 'Ok-Jang-Pan incident.'

"I truly did not recommend anyone," Ok Joo-hyun clarified. "I was merely helping my junior, Lee Ji-hye, to study and perform well, not preparing her for a specific role." She explained that Lee Ji-hye was unanimously cast in the role of the Empress after extensive preparation and a successful audition.

The 'Ok-Jang-Pan' controversy erupted in 2022 when Ok Joo-hyun and her protégé, Lee Ji-hye, were double-cast as the lead in the 10th-anniversary production of 'Elizabeth.' Speculation arose that Ok Joo-hyun's influence was involved, especially when actor Kim Ho-young posted on social media, referencing the situation with the phrase "Ok-Jang-Pan." This led to further escalation, with Ok Joo-hyun initially considering legal action.

Recalling the difficult period, Ok Joo-hyun shared, "After the controversy, Ji-hye and I didn't contact each other. We both knew we weren't okay." She added, "Lee Ji-hye had studied sufficiently and grown so well. She was unanimously chosen for the new Empress role in the audition. We thought we would be alright because we were in the clear, but things escalated too much." Lee Ji-hye echoed these sentiments, expressing her hurt at receiving messages asking if she was alright rather than congratulations after her dream role.

Ok Joo-hyun's candid confession after three years aims to clear up misunderstandings and reaffirm her dedication to musical theater.
