Lee Min-jung Reveals Story of Getting into Sungkyunkwan University on Second Try
Actress Lee Min-jung has shared the candid story behind her arduous journey to get accepted into Sungkyunkwan University on her second attempt.
In a YouTube video uploaded on the channel 'Lee Min-jung MJ' on the 9th, titled 'From Lee Min-jung's Gold Spoon Story to 'Boys Over Flowers' Casting. Everything Revealed *Lee Min-jung's Life Explanation', she detailed her experience. Lee Min-jung explained that she had to retake the college entrance exam due to mistakenly filling out her answer sheet during her first attempt. "I studied incredibly hard, and my grades improved significantly. The 2001 college entrance exam was relatively easy, but I scored close to 380 out of 400 points," she recalled.
Despite achieving a high score of 380 on the 2001 exam, which was notoriously easy with numerous perfect scores, Lee Min-jung mentioned she did not get into her dream SKY universities (Seoul National, Korea, Yonsei). "I applied for Hanyang University's special admission and Sungkyunkwan University's regular admission, and I was accepted into Sungkyunkwan University right away," she stated. She further revealed her mindset for her first year of university: "I decided to just 'have fun' during my first year. My mom thought I was crazy, but I reasoned that since I was paying with my own money, it was fine. If I were using my parents' money, it would have been different."
Lee Min-jung emphasized that she never received financial support from her parents during her university years. "I funded my tuition and living expenses entirely through part-time jobs. I even earned 300,000 won for small extra roles as a passerby," she disclosed, highlighting her independent financial path.
Lee Min-jung debuted as a commercial model in 2003. She gained significant popularity playing the role of Geum Jan-di in the 2009 drama 'Boys Over Flowers'. Since then, she has starred in various dramas and films, establishing herself as a leading actress in South Korea.
