Son Ye-jin Opens Up About First Post-Childbirth Role in 'Alienoid' with Park Chan-wook

Actress Son Ye-jin has shared insights into her life and return to acting after becoming a mother.

In a recent YouTube episode of 'Channel Fifteen Nights' featuring director Park Chan-wook and actors like Lee Byung-hun, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, and Yeom Hye-ran, Son Ye-jin discussed her comeback film.

Son Ye-jin, who married actor Hyun Bin and welcomed their son, is set to return to the big screen after a three-year hiatus with the movie 'Alienoid'. She recounted how she was initially surprised when director Park Chan-wook offered her a role. Actress Lee Min-jung, a close friend, apparently informed her about the director's interest and the script offer.

"I was surprised when Director Park Chan-wook said he was giving me a script," Son Ye-jin explained. "Min-jung, who is close to me, asked about my schedule. She then told me Director Park Chan-wook was thinking of me while working on the script."

She admitted that the role initially seemed quite small, but the opportunity to work with such a renowned director was significant. Director Park Chan-wook revealed that he was prepared for her to decline the offer. He recalled her request, "Please just make sure I don't hear my friends asking 'Why did you do that?' after the movie is released."

Son Ye-jin humorously added that she had "slightly threatened" the director. Park Chan-wook confirmed he went to great lengths, including script revisions and careful editing, to fulfill her wish, stating he is very confident about this particular aspect of the film. The conversation also touched upon travel preferences, with Son Ye-jin expressing her love for travel but noting the current impossibility due to childcare responsibilities.

Son Ye-jin tied the knot with actor Hyun Bin in March 2022 and gave birth to their son in November of the same year.

This marks her official return to acting after a maternity leave of approximately three years.
