Son Min-soo Speaks Out on Multiples Parenting Challenges on 'My Baby Was Born Again!'
Comedian Son Min-soo voiced his earnest opinions regarding the realities of carrying and raising multiple children during the recent broadcast of TV Chosun's entertainment show 'My Baby Was Born Again!' (Woori Agi).
The episode featured a mother expecting quadruplets, leaving Son Min-soo, who is expecting twins with his wife Im La-ra, in a state of shock and concern. The mother shared the immense financial burden from the outset, stating, "There are so many expenses. Just the hospital bills alone are four times as much." The estimated cost for postpartum care alone reached 9 million won.
A particularly distressing issue highlighted was the difficulty in obtaining prenatal insurance. For mothers carrying multiples, it's common to be prescribed 'Aspirin' to prevent complications like thrombosis, hypertension, or diabetes. However, this prescription often leads to insurance companies rejecting applications for both prenatal and even standard child insurance.
Son Min-soo, himself an expectant father of twins, empathized deeply, sharing his own struggles. "Mothers carrying multiples must take Aspirin. But if it's prescribed, insurance companies refuse coverage. We were rejected too," he revealed, underscoring the systemic hurdles.
In response to these challenges, fellow cast members called for policy improvements. Son Min-soo seized the opportunity, directly appealing to the Minister of Health and Welfare to pay closer attention to the issue of prenatal insurance for parents expecting multiples.
