Veteran actor Lee Byung-hun recently shared his thoughts on the immense global success of Netflix's 'Squid Game' and the film 'K-Pop: Demon Hunters'.

During an 'Actors House' talk at the 30th Busan International Film Festival held at Shinhan Card Hall, Dongseok University in Busan on the evening of the 19th, Lee Byung-hun looked back on his career.

He played the Front Man in 'Squid Game' and a key role in 'K-Pop: Demon Hunters,' solidifying his status as a global star. Reflecting on the overwhelming international love he's received, he humbly stated, "Creators likely start with aspirations and dreams, but for someone like me who just participated, I never imagined it would receive such tremendous love, let alone become a phenomenon. It was a case of immense luck."

When asked about being a 'global star,' Lee Byung-hun admitted he still doesn't feel accustomed to the title. He revealed his decision-making process for roles, saying, "I approach projects with great tension and careful deliberation, but in the end, at the very last moment, I often decide with a 'what the heck' attitude. It's less about calculated choices and more about 'What's life for, anyway?'" he said with a laugh.

He recounted the story behind his decision to join Hollywood's 'G.I. Joe.' At the time, he was torn between Korean films 'The Good, the Bad, the Weird' and 'I Saw the Devil.' He sought advice from directors Kim Jee-woon and Park Chan-wook, but their conflicting opinions only deepened his dilemma. Ultimately, he decided on 'G.I. Joe' after committing to 'The Good, the Bad, the Weird' and 'I Saw the Devil,' leading to what he described as the most physically demanding period of his life.

Lee Byung-hun debuted in 1991 and has since become a leading figure in Korean cinema, known for his versatile performances across genres. His exceptional acting skills and charisma have earned him critical acclaim, including an award for Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival. He is recognized globally not just as a Korean star but as a respected international actor.
