BLACKPINK's Rosé has etched her name in K-pop history, becoming the first artist from the genre to win Song of the Year at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. She also secured the Best Group award, making her a double winner for the night.

On September 7, at New York's UBS Arena, Rosé accepted the prestigious Song of the Year award for her collaboration with Bruno Mars, 'APT.', released last October. This marks a significant achievement, as it's the first time a K-pop artist has claimed one of the VMA's most coveted honors. Rosé also won Best Group alongside Mars, adding to BLACKPINK's previous win in the same category in 2023.

In an emotional acceptance speech, Rosé expressed her disbelief and gratitude. "I can’t believe this. I’m so grateful to Bruno Mars, who believed in me from the very beginning and helped me," she shared. "I dedicate this trophy to the 16-year-old me who chased her dreams. This moment feels like recognition for all the hard work, and I’m so happy to accept it." She also gave shout-outs to producer Teddy and her fellow BLACKPINK members, exclaiming, "Teddy — oppa, my producer — I won an award! BLACKPINK members, I won an award! Thank you always, I love you."

The night was a triumph for BLACKPINK overall, with member Lisa also taking home the Best K-pop award for her solo work, bringing the group's total VMA wins for the year to three. HYBE's rising global girl group CAT’S EYE also impressed, earning Push Performance of the Year for their track 'Touch.' They delivered electrifying performances of 'Gnarly' and 'Gabriela' during the pre-show. "This moment feels so new to us, and after everything we’ve been through, it feels like such a meaningful payoff. We’re truly grateful," the group stated in their acceptance speech.

Rosé's historic win, alongside Lisa's solo success and CAT’S EYE's achievement, highlights the growing global influence of K-pop, further cementing its position on the international music stage.

Rosé's solo debut single 'R' achieved significant global success, with 'On The Ground' charting on the Billboard Hot 100. She is also a prominent figure in the fashion world, serving as an ambassador for multiple luxury brands. Her unique vocal tone and captivating stage presence have garnered her a dedicated international fanbase.
