Lee Ji-ho, the eldest son of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jay-yong, has begun his military service as a naval officer.

Lee Ji-ho appeared at the enlistment ceremony for the 139th class of naval officer candidates at the Naval Academy in Changwon, Gyeongnam, on the 15th, presenting a dignified image.

Sporting a buzz cut, black t-shirt, and jeans, he confidently saluted the press. His mother, Im Se-ryeong, Vice Chairman of Daesang Holdings, and his younger sister, Won-ju, accompanied him to support him.

Born in New York in 2000, Lee Ji-ho held dual citizenship of South Korea and the United States but relinquished his U.S. citizenship to pursue officer training. This move is a mandatory step for dual nationals wishing to serve as officers in the Korean military.

After completing one week of basic training, he will undergo an 11-week officer training course and is scheduled to be commissioned as a naval second lieutenant on December 1st. He will then serve for a total of 39 months, including the mandatory 36-month service period. It is known that Lee Ji-ho aspires to become a ship interpreter officer.

The business community views this decision as a commendable act of 'noblesse oblige.' Indeed, the number of individuals forgoing permanent residency or citizenship to volunteer as officers is exceptionally low.

Beyond his background as the heir to the No. 1 conglomerate Samsung, Lee Ji-ho is embarking on a new path as a military officer, drawing considerable attention.

Born in New York in 2000, Lee Ji-ho was previously a dual citizen of South Korea and the United States. He gave up his American citizenship to fulfill his military obligation as a naval officer. His aspiration is to serve as a ship interpreter.
