WOODZ Reveals He Served as a 'Singer Soldier' in the Military Band; Ong Seong-wu Admits He Was Rejected
Singer WOODZ appeared on MBC's 'Radio Star' and shared behind-the-scenes stories from his military service.
On the episode aired on the 17th, WOODZ joined guests Jeong Bo-seok, Lee Seok-hoon, and Ong Seong-wu. During the show, WOODZ introduced himself with the motto 'Heavy roots, light branches,' surprising Kim Gu-ra with his unique greeting. He explained that he wanted to leave a lasting impression by sharing the meaning of his name.
WOODZ, who had been discharged from the military two months prior to filming, expressed his surprise and novelty at appearing on the show. When Kim Gu-ra commented on his longer hair, WOODZ explained that military band regulations prevented very short haircuts and that he hadn't cut his hair since his discharge. Notably, he revealed that he served as a 'singer soldier' in the military band, having applied to the Korea Military Academy where there was an opening for the position. Upon hearing this, Ong Seong-wu shared his own disappointment, admitting he had applied for the same role but was not selected.
WOODZ, born in 1996, legally changed his name to Cho Seung-youn. He debuted in 2016 as a member of the group UNIQ and gained significant popularity after appearing on Mnet's 'Produce X 101' in 2018. He has since achieved success as a solo artist.
