Former Sobangcha Member Jung Won-kwan Recalls NRG's Kim Hwan-sung with Sorrow: 'Sudden Death from Sepsis'

Singer Jung Won-kwan, formerly of the group Sobangcha, shared his sorrowful memories of the late Kim Hwan-sung, a member of the group NRG.

In a YouTube video released on the 16th on the channel 'Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life,' Jung Won-kwan reflected on his days as a producer and shared memories of Kim Hwan-sung, with whom he worked in NRG.

Jung Won-kwan confessed that after NRG's first and second album activities, he experienced the tragic event of losing a member suddenly during his transition to independence. He recalled the shock and grief, stating, 'It was sepsis. He caught a cold, but an infection developed while he was having a wisdom tooth removed, and he passed away within three days.'

The late Kim Hwan-sung passed away on June 15, 2000, at the young age of 19 due to sudden sepsis. He had visited the hospital complaining of a sore throat and cold symptoms, but after experiencing acute respiratory distress, he was moved to the intensive care unit, where he ultimately died.

The sudden news of his death, caused by an acute viral respiratory illness not widely known at the time besides the common cold, deeply shocked fans.

Jung Won-kwan debuted as a member of the popular 1980s group Sobangcha, receiving immense love. He later showcased his versatility by working as a producer and agency representative for artists like NRG and Jo PD. He is currently known to be active in personal projects and nurturing junior artists.
