Park Yeon-soo Sparks Debate Over Daughter Song Ji-ah's Career Path: 'Is Entertainment the Easy Way?'
Actress Park Yeon-soo has ignited a controversy with a remark about her daughter Song Ji-ah's career choice. Her statement, implying that choosing golf over a potential entertainment path was taking the 'difficult road,' has drawn criticism from some netizens who argue that the entertainment industry is far from easy.
Park recently shared a post on her social media featuring photos of Song Ji-ah. She wrote, "I enjoyed dressing you in dozens of outfits for shoots, but Ji-ah said, 'Golf is a hundred times easier and more fun.' That's when I knew. My daughter truly loves golf," expressing her respect for her daughter's decision.
She further added, "Every time your grades weren't good, and whenever agencies contacted us, I wondered why you were choosing this difficult path when there was an easier one... It took you 6 years to calm down, though you have good tension... It's still a long way to go, but I acknowledge your love for golf!" The phrase implying the entertainment industry is an 'easy path' became the focal point of the debate.
Some netizens pointed out that Park's comment was imprudent, stating, "The entertainment world is also a field of fierce competition." However, others defended her, suggesting, "She likely meant that golf is a more challenging path from a parent's perspective."
Song Ji-ah first gained public attention in 2013 through the MBC show 'Dad! Where Are We Going?' alongside her father, Song Jong-gook. Despite her striking visuals, which led to speculation about a potential debut in the entertainment industry, she ultimately rejected offers, including one from JYP Entertainment, to pursue golf. She recently earned her membership with the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA), embarking on her journey as a professional athlete.
Song Ji-ah garnered immense popularity during her appearances on 'Dad! Where Are We Going?' with her youthful charm. Despite receiving an offer from JYP Entertainment to become a trainee, she politely declined to focus entirely on her golf aspirations. She is currently pursuing her dream as a professional golfer after obtaining her KLPGA membership.
