To commemorate the 10th anniversary of their debut, Professor Kim Jung-sup of Sungshin University has released a new book titled 'The Worldview of BTS,' delving into the K-culture phenomenon.

The book offers an in-depth analysis of the messages embedded within BTS's music and their unique worldview, presented through Professor Kim's insightful perspective. He holds BTS in such high regard for their global influence that he even speculates about their potential to win a Nobel Prize in the future.

Professor Kim meticulously examined a total of 159 songs across 23 albums, from BTS's debut track 'No More Dream' to their 2023 release 'Take Two.' He posits that BTS's music transcends mere concepts, acting as a 'life map' that reflects the struggles and trials faced by the younger generation.

The analysis highlights how BTS's songs resonate with global audiences by addressing themes of self-exploration amidst uncertainty, love and loss, and messages of social solidarity. These universal narratives have fostered a collective emotional connection among listeners worldwide.

The book further categorizes BTS's musical universe into 'Five Great Worldviews.' These encompass messages of overcoming the loss of dreams and anxieties to pursue goals, the journey of finding personal success and happiness, songs about youth through love and heartbreak, solidarity and resistance against societal ills, and lyrics that speak to the weariness of stardom while promising companionship with fans.

Professor Kim enriches his analysis by drawing from literary and philosophical theories, applying Gérard Genette's 'digesis theory' to dissect the narrative structure of songs and Immanuel Kant's 'theory of the cognitive subject' to analyze their objects of perception, thereby enhancing the reader's engagement.

Moreover, the book sheds light on BTS's social activism. Their participation in anti-racism hashtag movements and consistent delivery of messages promoting community healing are presented as reasons why BTS is rightly hailed not just as global artists but as messengers of peace.

Kim Jung-sup is a professor in the Department of Media and Communication at Sungshin University. His research extensively covers cultural content, with a particular focus on popular music and fandom culture. 'The Worldview of BTS' is a product of this expertise, offering a deep dive into the BTS phenomenon.
