Kim Byung-man's Ex-Wife Denies Misconduct Allegations, Claims Funds Were for Home Purchase

The ex-wife of comedian Kim Byung-man, identified only as Ms. A, has come forward to refute various allegations surrounding her separation from the television personality. In a recent interview published by Woman Sense, Ms. A addressed claims that she had embezzled 670 million KRW from Kim's assets.

Ms. A asserted that the sum was intended for a home purchase. She explained that in the spring of 2019, she transferred 600 million KRW from her deposit for their then-residence to her personal account. The additional 70 million KRW was consolidated from various other accounts, all with the intention of buying a new property. She refuted reports suggesting she withdrew the money hastily while Kim Byung-man was reissuing his digital certificate, stating that she was merely proceeding with the property acquisition process.

Regarding the accusation of subscribing to 24 insurance policies without Kim's knowledge, Ms. A clarified that the total number of policies, including general insurance like fire and auto, was 24, not exclusively life insurance. She stated that only four were whole life policies, with 5 million KRW of the monthly premium of 6 to 7 million KRW going towards annuities. Ms. A emphasized that Kim Byung-man was fully aware of all insurance details and had personally signed the contracts. She further explained that some policies were cross-insured for inheritance tax purposes, covering Kim's family home, her parents' home, and their office, a measure agreed upon by both parties.

Addressing allegations of domestic violence, Ms. A explained that the incidents were old, and the exact dates were difficult to recall, noting instances where she did not seek immediate medical attention. She also stated that insufficient evidence was prepared during the initial stages of the divorce proceedings, as she had not intended to raise the issue of violence then. Furthermore, she vehemently denied demanding 3 billion KRW for parental rights termination, clarifying that her lawyer's contact with Kim's side regarding property division and parental rights was separate from any financial demands for termination, and she had rejected proposals linking the two.

Ms. A concluded by expressing her deep hurt over Kim Byung-man's recent television appearance where he claimed she refused pregnancy and ignored his divorce requests for nine years. She revealed a seven-year struggle with infertility, including multiple IVF attempts and a leave of absence from work, firmly stating she never refused to have children. She expressed a desire for a sincere apology from Kim Byung-man.
