Hyun Bin & Jung Woo-sung's 'Made in Korea' Confirmed for Season 2, Poised to Lead Disney+ Fall Lineup
Disney+ original series 'Made in Korea' is set to continue its momentum with the confirmation of a second season, signaling a potential box office hit for the latter half of the year.
Sources indicate that following the completion of Season 1 filming, slated for release this fall, the production team is already rapidly preparing for Season 2. The drama, set against the turbulent backdrop of the 1970s, chronicles the story of Baek Ki-tae (played by Hyun Bin), driven by ambition for wealth and power, and prosecutor Jang Geon-young (played by Jung Woo-sung), who risks everything to stop him. As a spin-off of the 2018 film 'Drug King,' the series reunites director Woo Min-ho with the production company Hive Media Corp., known for the blockbuster '12.12: The Day,' raising expectations from the outset.
Beyond the highly anticipated pairing of Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung, 'Made in Korea' boasts a stellar cast including Jinny Park, Seo Eun-soo, Jo Yeo-jeong, and Jung Sung-il. The series was highlighted as a major tentpole release for Disney+ during their open house event in May. Hive Media Corp. CEO Kim Won-gook expressed strong confidence, stating, "With Disney+'s support and Hive's production capabilities, a very powerful drama will emerge," predicting it could "change the landscape of Korean K-dramas."
Disney+ is strengthening its lineup of high-quality originals, following the acclaimed 'The 8 Show' and the anticipated romance starring Jun Ji-hyun and Kang Dong-won, 'Polaris.' This is further complemented by the upcoming premiere of 'Turbulent Flow,' a new work from the writer of 'The Slave Hunters,' at the Busan International Film Festival, and 'Made in Korea' Season 1 is set to provide a grand finale for Korean content in the latter half of the year. The swift progression to a second season for 'Made in Korea' further amplifies anticipation for its success.
Hyun Bin rose to stardom with the 2005 drama 'My Name Is Kim Sam-soon.' He has since showcased a wide acting spectrum, from romantic comedies to action, in numerous hit dramas like 'Secret Garden' and 'Crash Landing on You.' He consistently engages audiences on the big screen as well, with films such as 'The Swindlers,' 'Confidential Assignment,' and 'The Point Men.'
