Trot Rookie Yoon Se-yeon Captivates with MZ Charm on 'Shining Trot'
Singer Yoon Se-yeon showcased her vibrant MZ-generation charm, leaving a strong impression on KBS Happy FM's 'Eun Ga-eun's Shining Trot'.
Despite being only three days into her trot debut, Yoon Se-yeon garnered significant attention from the start, boasting an impressive resume as a certified practitioner of Gugak (Korean traditional music), specifically Gyeonggi Minyo (a national intangible cultural asset), and a grand prize winner at the year-end finals of KBS's 'National Singing Contest'.
Reflecting on her 'National Singing Contest' experience, Yoon Se-yeon shared, "It's a program loved by everyone, and my mother encouraged me to participate." She added, "I was fortunate enough to win the top award in the preliminary rounds, which are tougher than most competition shows, and then take home the grand prize at the year-end finals."
Recalling her childhood appearances on 'Gukak Hanmadang' and 'Achim Madang', she revealed her energetic roots: "My parents were also very talented, so when I was in elementary school, my older sister, mother, and I performed as a team. My mother was the main performer, and my sister and I danced."
Yoon Se-yeon then performed 'Palpal Barji,' a song that helped her gain recognition on the program 'Pungnyu Daejang.' Her rendition, a unique mashup of Psy's upbeat original with traditional folk music, infused Korean color and delivered energy and joy to listeners with her clear and refreshing vocals.
Introducing her trot debut song 'Hoi Hoi Hoi,' she explained, "It's a gift from Kim Dong-chan. It's an exciting song that means love and life can be made magically happy." With a fan dance and an energetic live performance, she heated up the atmosphere.
Before her trot debut, Yoon Se-yeon was a recognized practitioner of Gyeonggi Minyo, a form of traditional Korean folk singing designated as National Intangible Cultural Property No. 57.
She demonstrated her talent by winning the grand prize at the year-end finals of the widely popular KBS 'National Singing Contest'.
Her performances on the show 'Pungnyu Daejang,' which blended traditional Korean music with contemporary styles, garnered significant popularity and attention.
