Kim Won-hoon, The Master of Ad-lib on 'SNL Korea 2,' Reveals His Dedication

Kim Won-hoon, embodying the role of a junior comedian at DY Planning in Coupang Play's 'SNL Korea 2,' has proven himself to be a master of improvisation. He crafts the majority of his lines on the spot, leading each episode with fresh ad-libs.

In a recent interview, Kim Won-hoon explained his creative process, stating, 'The script only provides the situation; about 90% is improvised.' He also candidly shared his struggles, admitting, 'Because I have an introverted personality, I feel burdened if I cross the line with my jokes.'

Once a guest is confirmed, Kim Won-hoon meticulously researches them, starting with Namu Wiki and delving into all related materials. He then identifies potential sensitive points that might make the guest uncomfortable and uses them as material for his ad-libs. A notable instance was when he humorously transformed the phrase 'That's funny' from guest Hyeri's appearance into a comedic sketch, sparking considerable buzz.

He highlighted the synergy with his colleagues as crucial for successful improvisation. He particularly mentioned the invaluable support from senior comedian Shin Dong-yup and the encouragement from singer Car, the garden (real name Cha Jung-won). 'If I feel I've gone too far, I look at my senior, and he naturally smooths things over,' Kim Won-hoon remarked, emphasizing the importance of teamwork.

Kim Won-hoon expressed his desire to collaborate with actor Choi Min-sik in the future. His ambition to create humorous moments using less commercially successful projects showcases his deep understanding of improvisation. He stated, 'I can endure because I trust my colleagues,' and finds the greatest reward when office workers laugh, relating their own experiences to his comedy.

Kim Won-hoon debuted as a comedian in 2010 with SBS's 11th public recruitment. Beyond 'SNL Korea,' he has actively participated in various variety shows, earning affection for his unique wit and humor.
