Jaurim's Kim Yun-a shares her near-career-ending health scare and renewed musical passion

Kim Yun-a, the charismatic vocalist of the beloved band Jaurim, has opened up about how a serious health crisis nearly ended her music career, ultimately deepening her resolve to pursue music with even greater passion.

During her appearance on the KBS 2TV program 'The Seasons – 10CM's Hug Hug' on the 14th, Kim Yun-a introduced Jaurim's 12th full-length album, released just days prior on the 9th. She candidly shared, "I experienced a significant health setback, and I was at a critical juncture, questioning if I could continue making music. Because you never know what life will bring, I had an epiphany that if this was to be my last chance, I had to do everything I could."

She elaborated that with the mindset of "giving it your all," she pushed the intensity of her creative process to complete the album.

Kim Yun-a had previously disclosed her lifelong battle with a congenital immunodeficiency, necessitating monthly intravenous treatments. Following a period of demanding schedules, she suffered from cranial nerve paralysis, which impacted various functions including facial motor control, taste, smell, hearing, and the vagus nerve. Despite ongoing lingering effects, she has continued her artistic endeavors, successfully elevating the sonic quality of Jaurim's distinctive sound, she explained.

Kwon Jeong-yeol, the host and fellow musician, offered words of encouragement, stating, "Most people would tend to re-evaluate their lives at a more relaxed pace after facing health challenges, but we are thankful that you chose to dedicate yourself even more intensely to music."

Jaurim has announced plans for performances, with concerts scheduled in Seoul at the year's end and in Busan at the start of the next, continuing to bring their new album to life on stage.

Attention is now focused on how the 12th album, characterized by its profound 'density' in sound, lyrics, and arrangement – a direct response to Kim Yun-a's confrontation with cranial nerve paralysis – will resonate and expand its impact through live performances.
