Disney+'s 'The Whirlwind' Faces Fine for Illegal Dumping of Trash
The production team of Disney+'s original series 'The Whirlwind' has been fined for illegally dumping trash after filming. The Jeju City Hall in Aewol-eup announced on the 17th that it would impose a fine of 1 million won on the production company for violating Article 8 of the Waste Management Act, following an investigation into a complaint filed through the National Civil Petition system.
An official from Aewol-eup stated that while the filming location was not state-owned forest land, they would strengthen cooperation conditions for filming in forests managed by the Korea Forest Service and rigorously check for restoration after the cooperation period ends. They emphasized that measures would be taken to prevent recurrence, including issuing warnings to offenders and intensifying efforts against illegal dumping and forest fire prevention.
Previously, on the 28th of last month, photos and videos surfaced on online communities showing the drama crew leaving behind trash after filming. The images depicted a forest area filled with illegally dumped waste, with a cup holder bearing the photo of lead actor Kim Seon-ho found among the debris, intensifying public outcry.
In response, the 'The Whirlwind' team explained that due to late-night filming and darkness, the site cleanup was not meticulously completed. They stated that upon realizing the situation, they immediately cleared the trash and apologized to relevant authorities, seeking their understanding. The trash has since been completely removed.
