The 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has grandly commenced with the screening of director Park Chan-wook's opening film, 'Unforeseen'.

The festival is currently sailing smoothly past its midpoint, with the opening ceremony hosted by actor Lee Byung-hun and directed by Min Kyu-dong attracting an audience of approximately 5,000 people. A galaxy of stars, including Michael Mann, Guillermo del Toro, Sylvia Chang, Ha Jung-woo, Son Ye-jin, Han So-hee, Rowoon, and Blackpink's Lisa, graced the event.

The newly established competition section's jury features prominent directors like Na Hong-jin and Nandita Das, alongside actress Han Hyo-joo. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Woo-young and Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon also attended, adding prestige to the occasion.

As of October 22nd, ticket sales and sold-out screenings have seen a significant surge compared to the same period last year. Official screenings, Q&A sessions, open talks, and outdoor stage greetings have transformed the Busan Cinema Center and the entire city into a vibrant festival ground.

Special programs like Actor's House, Master Class, and Carte Blanche, along with special talks and 'A Ja! A Ja! With...' sessions, have provided a rich experience for attendees. Director Guillermo del Toro's sing-along screening and surprise Q&A session garnered significant attention.

Out of the 14 Asian films selected for the new competitive section, 12 have successfully completed their premiere screenings amidst warm audience reception, following pre-screening photowalls. The winners of the Busan Award will be announced at the closing ceremony on September 26th.

The Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) marked a successful start with its record-breaking scale of industry events. The Forum BIFF engaged in in-depth discussions diagnosing the present and exploring the future of Korean and Asian cinema. Community BIFF and Neighborhood BIFF offered cinematic moments through audience-driven participatory programs.

The second week, starting October 23rd, promises more global guests and events. The festival will continue until October 26th, meeting audiences across Busan with the crisp autumn breeze.

The festival runs from October 2nd to 11th, featuring 192 official selections and a variety of side events. Master Classes will host world-renowned directors for insightful lectures. This year's BIFF emphasizes change and innovation under the slogan 'Renewal: Rebirth of Cinema'.
