K-pop icon IU has unveiled a surprise digital single, 'Bye, Summer,' catching fans off guard with a late-summer gift. Released without any prior announcement on the 10th at 7 AM KST, the song is now available on major music streaming platforms.
'Bye, Summer' was first performed by IU during the encore concert of her '2024 IU HEREH WORLD TOUR' in September last year. At the time, she shared, "This tour felt exceptionally long, but I want to say that with you, this summer was the best summer." The live performance, where IU played the guitar, was met with immense applause, and a subsequent live clip garnered significant attention, even trending on YouTube.
Having personally penned the lyrics and co-composed the music with Seo Dong-hwan, known for their collaboration on 'Love wins all,' IU infuses 'Bye, Summer' with her signature lyrical vocals, delicate melody, and refreshing band sound, perfectly capturing the fleeting moments of summer's end. The accompanying lyric video, released on her official YouTube channel, tells a poignant, fairy-tale-like story of a boy and girl's summer memories and farewell.
IU recently won both Best Actress and the Popular Star Award at the 4th Blue Dragon Series Awards for her role in the Netflix series 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.' She is currently filming the upcoming drama 'The Prince of the 21st Century.' Additionally, she is set to hold her fan meeting '2025 IU FAN MEET-UP [Bye, Summer]' on the 13th and 14th at KSPO DOME.
