Trot Star Jung Dong-won Under Investigation for Driving Without a License as a Minor
Trot singer Jung Dong-won is reportedly under investigation by prosecutors for driving without a license during his minor years.
According to MBN, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office is investigating Jung for violating the Road Traffic Act by driving without a license.
Jung is accused of operating a vehicle without a license in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do, back in 2023, when he was 16 years old. This incident came to light during an investigation into a blackmail case involving his mobile phone.
Following an extortion incident where he was pressured for 500 million KRW and his phone was seized, Jung received his phone back. However, a video stored on the phone, depicting him driving a truck in Hadong in 2023, led to the discovery of the unlicensed driving charge.
The Seoul Gangnam Police Station concluded that the unlicensed driving charge was valid and forwarded the case to the prosecution in June.
Jung's agency stated they are currently assessing the situation and have no specific information to share at this time.
Previously, Jung was caught driving a motorcycle without a license on the Dongbu Expressway in Seoul in March of the same year. At that time, he received a suspended indictment considering his minor status and the fact that it was his first offense.
Jung Dong-won first gained national attention as a prodigy in the trot music genre at a very young age. His musical talents and bright persona have earned him a significant fanbase. This recent legal issue has garnered considerable attention regarding his future career path.
