Kim Dong-wan, a member of the group Shinhwa, has clarified his recent controversial statements about rejecting offers for variety shows.

In a lengthy social media post, Kim Dong-wan began by describing the initial stages of becoming an actor in Japan, which often involve menial tasks like cleaning as a test of diligence. He explained that even for minor roles, actors are expected to manage their own makeup and styling without assistants.

He highlighted that the phrase, 'I'll even do that,' resonated deeply with him amidst the numerous reactions to his initial 'variety show rejection' statement. Kim Dong-wan stated that his reason for declining variety show offers was the "comfort" it provided. He elaborated that repeating old stories and performing trivial acts for good money could lead to complacency and distancing from one's primary career.

Kim Dong-wan also mentioned that due to his unvaccinated status during the pandemic, he missed many opportunities. When he finally felt like a "real celebrity again" through a drama, comfortable offers started pouring in. As a solo entertainer, he felt it was time to make his own decisions.

Reflecting further, Kim Dong-wan admitted that his approach might have been misguided. He acknowledged that his words could sound arrogant to aspiring actors and singers who are eager for any broadcasting opportunity. He urged these individuals not to misunderstand him and advised them to actively pursue any available path while preparing for their dreams.

Kim Dong-wan also pursued a solo music career, releasing his first solo album 'D' in 2015. He has appeared in various television dramas, including 'I'm Sorry, I Love You' (2004) and 'Family's Secret' (2014). His acting roles demonstrate his commitment to developing his craft beyond group activities.
