Lee Young-ae Explains Her Return to KBS After 26 Years with 'A Day for Being Nice'

Actress Lee Young-ae has revealed the reasons behind her decision to return to a KBS drama after a 26-year hiatus. The press conference for the new KBS2 weekend drama ‘A Day for Being Nice’ was held on the afternoon of the 16th in Seoul.

‘A Day for Being Nice’ depicts the perilous partnership of Kang Eun-soo (Lee Young-ae), a parent desperate to protect her family, and Lee Kyung (Kim Young-kwang), a teacher with a dual personality, after they coincidentally stumble upon a bag of drugs. Lee Young-ae takes on the role of Kang Eun-soo, who transitions from a typical housewife into the forbidden world.

When asked about her motivation for choosing the project, Lee Young-ae stated, "First, it was interesting. Second, like the character, I am also a housewife at home. I wondered how fragile a person could become when faced with a bag of drugs in a normal domestic setting, and how many conflicts, worries, and emotions would surface. With the potential dissolution of the family looming, this isn't a distant issue but a reality causing ripples in our society. I wanted to contemplate this together, and the director has created a drama that, while serious, is not overly heavy and is enjoyable."

She added, "Compared to previous projects, this role is a housewife who wants to protect her family the most. It had the advantage of being an accessible approach. The script was fun and the quality was high. As the director mentioned, it's also one of KBS's most highly anticipated dramas this year. Therefore, I thought it would be a work you could focus on and be interested in during the second half of the year, so I strongly recommended it and started a new challenge myself. You can trust this," she emphasized.

The drama is set to premiere on the 20th at 9:20 PM.

Lee Young-ae debuted in 1993 through a commercial and has since established a strong position as an actress.
