Global music sensation Rosé, the main vocalist of BLACKPINK, has etched her name in K-pop history by winning the prestigious 'Song of the Year' award at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards.

Rosé secured this monumental achievement for her chart-topping single ‘APT.’, a collaboration with Bruno Mars, at the ceremony held on July 7th in New York City. This marks the first time a K-pop solo artist has won 'Song of the Year' at the VMAs.

Following the event, Rosé shared her excitement on social media, posting photos from the venue with the caption, “and this is how it goes... apt is SOTY!!!! @vmas.” The images captured special moments, including a warm embrace with pop superstar Ariana Grande and Rosé beaming amidst congratulatory cheers, resonating deeply with her global fanbase.

The award for ‘APT.’, released on October 18th of last year, is a testament to its massive global appeal and solidifies Rosé's status as a formidable solo artist on the international stage. Adding to the buzz, photos also revealed a meeting with Jae Lee, the composer of the OST ‘Golden’ for the Netflix animation ‘K-pop Demon Hunters’, who commented, “So deserved.” Paris Hilton also extended her congratulations with heart emojis.

With this significant win at the MTV VMAs, one of the four major music awards in the U.S. alongside the Grammys, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards, Rosé has elevated the presence of K-pop. Her unique husky vocals and authentic musicality continue to captivate listeners worldwide, promising an exciting future.

Born in New Zealand in 1997 and raised in Australia, Rosé trained at YG Entertainment before debuting with BLACKPINK in 2016. She is celebrated for her distinctive husky voice and exceptional guitar skills, which have also led to significant success in her solo career.
