A growing controversy is engulfing the Korean entertainment industry as several prominent stars, including Kang Dong-won, Kim Wan-sun, and Song Ga-in, have been found to be operating their entertainment agencies without the mandatory registration for a "Performing Arts Management Business." This follows similar revelations involving Ok Joo-hyun and Sung Si-kyung.

Reports indicate that Kang Dong-won established 'AA Group' in 2023 after his contract with YG Entertainment ended. Song Ga-in launched 'Gaindal Entertainment' in September last year, and Kim Wan-sun co-founded 'KW Flower' with fan club managers in 2020. All three entities were reportedly operating without fulfilling the legal registration requirements.

Following the reports, the artists' representatives have swiftly issued statements and initiated corrective actions. Song Ga-in's agency stated they intended to start activities after establishing the one-person agency but were unaware of the registration requirement as their management was handled by J Star. They plan to complete the registration process on the same day. Kang Dong-won's team acknowledged the issue immediately upon report and is proceeding with educational courses and registration procedures. Kim Wan-sun's agency also confirmed they are pursuing administrative steps after legal team verification.

The situation echoes previous controversies involving Ok Joo-hyun and Sung Si-kyung. Ok Joo-hyun apologized for missing registration procedures due to a lack of understanding of administrative processes. Sung Si-kyung, in a separate statement, explained that his agency was established in 2011 before the relevant law mandating registration was enacted in 2014. He apologized for not being aware of the new requirement and emphasized that the unregistered status was unrelated to tax evasion, as income has been transparently reported through a tax accountant.

Netizens have expressed strong reactions, questioning how such high-profile individuals could overlook basic legal obligations. Many are calling for stricter adherence to regulations to ensure transparency and protect artists' rights within the industry. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced a grace period until December 31st for unregistered agencies to comply, after which stricter penalties will be imposed.

Kang Dong-won is a highly respected actor known for his versatile performances across various genres, consistently delivering box-office hits. He is also recognized as a fashion icon, often setting trends with his unique sense of style. Beyond his acting career, he actively engages with the public through various other endeavors, expanding his influence.
