Actress Moon So-ri Joins Forces with WFP to Combat Global Hunger

Acclaimed actress Moon So-ri is lending her voice to the fight against global hunger, partnering with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The WFP Korea office announced her involvement on September 8th, highlighting her commitment to the cause.

A video released on WFP's YouTube and Instagram channels features Moon So-ri shedding light on the severity of the world food crisis and the critical work undertaken by the WFP. She urges global citizens to pay closer attention and offer their support to these vital humanitarian efforts.

Reflecting on South Korea's past reliance on international aid, Moon So-ri expressed her honor in contributing to the WFP's mission, noting the organization's significant role in assisting Korea's development. "I am deeply moved by WFP's belief that food is the path to peace," she stated, hoping her participation will raise broader awareness of the WFP's endeavors.

Lee Hyun-ji, the Country Director of WFP Korea, welcomed Moon So-ri's advocacy, saying, "We are truly delighted and grateful that actress Moon So-ri, a representative of Korea, has spoken out for food security." She encouraged widespread engagement with Moon So-ri's message and a collective effort towards WFP's goal of 'Zero Hunger'.

South Korea shares a unique history with the WFP, having received assistance from 1964 to 1984. Today, Korea stands as one of the WFP's most significant governmental donors, ranking among the top five in 2024. Under its motto, 'Saving Lives, Changing Lives,' the WFP provides immediate aid during conflicts and disasters and supports long-term self-sufficiency for vulnerable populations.

Moon So-ri debuted in the 1999 film 'Peppermint Candy' and has since garnered critical acclaim for her versatile performances in films such as 'Oasis,' 'A Family,' 'The Host,' 'The Handmaiden,' 'The Juror,' 'Three Sisters,' and 'Hunt.' Her work has been recognized at prestigious international film festivals including Venice, Cannes, and Berlin, solidifying her status as a leading Korean actress. She has also received numerous domestic awards, including Best Actress at the 41st Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Gold Award at the 40th Chunsa Film Art Awards.
