It was revealed that he was blackmailed by an acquaintance who threatened to release personal photos and the unlicensed driving footage. Despite demands for a large sum of money, Jung Dong-won refused to comply, admitted his wrongdoing, and reported the incident to the police, leading to the blackmailers' arrest and indictment. The agency stated, "Jung Dong-won deeply regrets driving on a mountain road for a short period and is committed to growing into a responsible member of society."

This incident follows a previous traffic violation two years ago, casting a shadow over public opinion. In March 2022, Jung Dong-won was booked for driving a motorcycle on a restricted highway in Seoul, a violation of traffic laws. He was stopped by police who responded to a report of a motorcycle on the restricted road.

At the time, Jung Dong-won admitted his mistake, and his agency quickly released an apology, explaining it as a lapse in judgment due to unfamiliarity with regulations during his first drive after obtaining his license.
