Lee Byung-hun Makes History as First Korean Actor to Receive TIFF Tribute Award

Renowned actor Lee Byung-hun has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first Korean actor to be honored with a special tribute award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The prestigious TIFF Tribute Awards ceremony, held on the 8th (local time), recognized Lee alongside acclaimed figures such as director Guillermo del Toro, director Hikari, and actress Jodie Foster.

Accepting the award, Lee expressed his gratitude, stating, "I humbly accept this award not as a personal achievement, but as recognition of the proud accomplishments and progress of Korean culture."

His film, 'Decision to Leave,' directed by Park Chan-wook, was also screened as a Gala Premiere selection. Following the screening, Lee shared his experience: "I was overwhelmed by the audience's enthusiastic reactions throughout the film. I was surprised by their detailed appreciation and felt their deep affection for the movie." Director Park Chan-wook added, "It was incredibly rewarding and moving to see the audience laugh and cry at moments I thought might be too subtle for a first-time viewer," according to CJ ENM. The film has achieved the top spot in domestic pre-sale ticket rankings, with over 177,000 tickets sold as of 8 PM on the 11th.
